While $4k is pretty reasonable for a kitchen, I think you could save even more if you shop outside the main retail stores. Your pricing for hardware seems high. Check ebay for hardware. I have redone 2 houses with hardware from ebay and it’s about half the price of HD or Lowes.
Also check around for a seconds/surplus building supply. Lots of bigger cities have them. That seems pricey for laminate countertops. What about the prefab tops you boy there?
Also, how about doing laminate floors and doing them yourself? They would be acceptable in a house of that price range and you could save so much on the labor.
Must you have stainless appliances? How about black instead? Much less expensive.
Or have you tried a scratch/dent appliance warehouse? Again, most cities have them.
Do some digging and don’t pay retail.

well the first question you need to answer is are you doing this for resale value or for your own enjoyment. its never a bad deal to do kitchen work because more than likely it will pay off.
first off learn how to do your own tile and you will save about 400 bucks. stainless steel is nice, however i personally think its something i wouldnt do. theres plenty of other stuff in the stainless price range that looks just as nice or nicer.

sounds good! when you paint your cabinets,use thin coats,top coat w/ clear water-base poly,use self-stick bumpers(prevents sticking)If you take doors off,drawers out,make sure they go back in same opening.Check for any rubbing prior to painting(sand,adjust)
Yes, I’d go ahead. It’s not a lot of money as these things go, and the kitchen is one of the places where a remodel really counts. You’re doing good basic stuff. And besides, you get to use this nice new kitchen while you live there.
